Grotto started as a small wine bar in a garage and workshop building from 1920 created by proprietors Alexander Kloster-Jensen & Marianne Wiig Storaas who acquired the building in 2021. The rough, clandestine seasonal wine bar had gravel on the floor and old French wine barrels scattered around the cave-like garage. Two years later they developed the building further and transformed the garages into a full service bistro & caveau, keeping the rough interiors that tell the story of its origin - as Oslo’s first garages for automobiles. In 2024 a Salon d’Argent with a bar americain was added, and in fall 2025 Grotto expanded further by opening Salon Mirage with the seafood bar.

Our signature cocktail, created by bar manager August Rosenlund Kvam and owner Alexander Kloster-Jensen. A modern take on the infamous and obscure Swamp Water — a drink born when Chartreuse set out to crack the American market. We've taken that brilliant, slightly unhinged original and made it our own. Enjoy!
2 cl Green Chrateruse
4 cl Pineapple Juice
3 cl Lime Juice
1 cl Clairin Communal or other french agricole rhum.
1 cl rich simple sirup
Topped with Soda
Garish with Mint
Shake with ice and strain into a highball glass filled with ice, top with soda, slap mint spring on the glass and use as garnish.
